Formed in 1928 as the Home Demonstration Club, the Belmont Club of Women is committed to community service.
Club members provide educational, financial and physical support to address many needs within the surrounding communities. Members work together to raise funds to provide scholarships each year to graduating students in each of the county high schools (Spotsylvania, Orange and Louisa), and there is a generous member-sponsored scholarship. In addition, each year the club donates funds to local non-profit institutions (such as local food pantries, medical services, volunteer fire and rescue, and animal rescue organizations) that provide services to the three counties.
Two major fund-raisers are held in conjunction with the Belmont Ruritan Club: a Ham and Oyster dinner in the spring and the Belmont Horse Show in August. The Belmont Club of Women Craft Fair is held each November.
In addition, the club provides opportunities to bring community members together through a broad variety of ongoing social activities and events.
Meetings are held the first Wednesday of each month at 10:00 a.m. at the Belmont Community Center, 7124 Belmont Road, Mineral, VA 23117. Visitors are welcome.
These meetings feature guest speakers on a variety of topics and are followed by a general business meeting. Each year the club offers one or two field trips to local area attractions, which in the past have included wineries, the circus in Richmond, a lunch and show at Riverside Theatre, and American Color greenhouses.
The Belmont Club of Women is a great way to get to know about local area services and activities. If you are just moving into the area or have been here for several years and want to find a way to become more involved in the community, the Belmont Club of Women is the place for you.
The more than 100 members represent a diverse group, with each woman contributing in her own way.
